Mrs. .Jennie Woodall, the aeronaut of Terre Haute, had a thrilling experience in a balloon ascension at the Pierson Fair in Vigo County. The balloon started well, but the parachute did not work and the woman was carried higher and higher amid great excitement among the people at the fair. The balloon finally disappeared from sight among the rain clouds, and few expected to again see the woman alive. The. crew of a passing freight train saw the balloon disappear. It was going their way and they kept a lookout for it. Three miles out Engineer G^rrity saw the balloon and parachute decending ahead of him and over the track. V Mrs. Woodall, sitting on the trapeze, was waving her hand at him to stop, which, he did as soon as possible. The canvass of the, balloon covered the smokestack and forced the gas from the firebox back into the cab, compelling the engineer and fireman to leave it. Engineer Garrity says he was afraid the balloon would take fire from the sparks, but he dared not back his engine, because Mrs. Woodall was enveloped in the folds of the canvas. Mrs. Woodallwas soon extricated and found to be unin-•jured.
