SHOPS TEAM DEFEAT PUEBLO ELKS FOR CITY CHAMPIONSHIP“ Vem ” Ellis Plays Sensational Game for Steel Leaguers. Sabo and Johnson Prove Hitting StarsThe Shops team captured the City i/ham pion«h ip when they defeated the PueblO Elks baseball nine yesterday afternoon on the State Fair grounds bv a 7.-3 score.A fifth inning rally by the hard hitting Steel leaguers put the game on ice' when tho champions dro' e in four runs, taking a three run lead over tho Pueblo Elks.The playing of Ellis was of the sensational order while the hitting of bo and the stick work of Johnson for the Elks team was the outstanding features of the game.Ted Josephs again pitched winning ball altho hr yielded nine hits, three of which were of the scratch order. The Elks used two twirlcrs, Milroy being taken off the rubber in the fifth after the Shops had touched him for three hits in this frame. Lutz finished the game holding the Mechanics to four hits during the final sessions.With ilobbs out on an infield play in the second. Johnson drove his first safe rap of the game by sending a fa-*t one past 13111s at third. Josephs drove a two-ply rap to left field and Allen duplicated the clout scoring the pitcher. Mike Masar drove out an easy fly to Finley in left hut he dropped the ball and the Shops captain pulled up at third hase before the hall was retrieved and returned to the infield. Allen scoring. Snbo sent one to pitcher who fumbled and Masar scored with the third run. Sabo pulling np at second. Sabo went to third on n passed hall. Clark scoring but Mc-Broefm was caught at the plate for the final out.One out had been made in the seventh for the Mechanics when Sabo hit safely. Ellis was safe on Clark's error and stole second.
