Mt. Greenwood spoils Untouchables homecomingBy DON RIZZS The Blue Island Jr. Untouchables hosted Mt. Greenwood’s Colts In their annual Homecoming game Sunday, Sept. 25 at Memorial Park in Blue Island. The Colts rolled over Blue Island by a decisive 40 to 8 score.The Untouchables, coached by Bill Broukal, just couldn’t get things together as the Colts struck early in the first period when Rodger Digrego-rio skirted his right end for a tD. The kick was good and Mt. Greenwood took the lead.Ron Sidler, Ken Labedz and Mike D’Amato sparkled on defense in the first half, along with a super tackle by Frank Traina around theheels of Billy Vonerheide which saved a sure TD by Mt. Greenwood.But Billy Vonerheide managed to come back with an interception and score, giving the Colts a 24 to 0 lead at halftime.Henry Savino also came through with a defensive gem in the first half when he intercepted on his own goal line and ran the ball out to the 19 yard siripe.In the third period Mt. Greenwood continued ?o put the pressure on the Untouchables and even though Mike D’Amato, George Hopf and Marty Dahl put on some great stops, they just couldn’t hold the onslaught ofthe Colt’s hard-charging runner Rodger Digregorio who took the handoff on a reverse and rambled 71 yards for a Mt. Greenwood TD. The kick was good and the Colts owned a commanding 32 to 0 third period lead.Ron Sidler picked up a first and ten for Blue Island on a pass play from Kenny Labedz and continued good tackling by Glenn Stone, who played a great game, Jeff Dykstra and Tommy Tiberi.Tommy Tiberi looks as though he’s going to make that number 13 something for opposing players to contend with, for he moves with the finesse of a headhunter on the prowl!Glenn Stone came through with another great defensive play giving the ball back to the Untouchables on the Coll 45 yard line, to open the fourth and final quarter ol play.An alert Mike D’Amatc pounced on a Colt fumble and recovered the ball in Mt. Greenwood territory which set the stage for a Green Machine TD.With the ball resting on the Colt 10 yard line, Kenny La bedz went back in the slot and fired a strike to Rahdy Emmeloth for an Untouchable TD. Labedz booted the extra point to make it a 32 to 8 ball game.
