Captain William Brignon explained the Marine Corps PLC and OCC programs.College is the first training ground for the majority of the Marine Corps’ future officers. Most of the corps officer programs require a bachelor’s degree before commissioning, so it is an official Marine Corp policy to encourage college students to stay in school arid earn their degree, “ explained Capt. Marine Officer Selection Officers visit colleges to offer advice and supply information. to students interested in military service in general and the Murine Corps in particular.There are two major commissioning programs available to college students: Pla.onn Leaders Class (PLC), and Officer Candidates Class (OCC). PLC is open .tofr«Khiti«n, sophomores and juniors. The program offers ground, aviation, and law options. An optional stipend is available to qualified members.Training takes place during the summer-months only. There are no required classes on campus, no drills, no uniform requirements and no grooming-standards. With training completed, commissioning can take place on the same day as college graduation.Seniors and recent graduates who have not participated in the PLC program can take advantage of the OCC program. This alsoIn both the PLC and OCC programs, pre-commission training takes place at Officer Candidates School, Marine Corps Base, Quantico, Virginia.
