Friday atthe Colonial Country Club in Fort Worth.Bailey was an All-Southwest Conference end in 1948 and 1949. He has lived in Amarillo for several years and is the executive vice-president of Plains Machinery. He first became a familiar name to Amarillo fans when he played for the Vernon Lions against the Sandies in 1943 and 1944.• • •Installed along with Bailey will be Dr. Abe Greines, football, 1915-16. Grassy Hinton, football, 1929-31, Bill Crawford, football, 1939-41, and Gene Schmidt, basketball, 1947-50.David O’Brien will serve as the master of ceremonies He was the Heisman Award winner in 1938 as he quarterbacked theFrogs to the national championship.The honorees will be special guests at the^ TCU- Arkansas football game Saturday night at TCU-Amon Carter Stadium.TCU will need all of the help possible against Arkansas. The Frogs haven’t defeated the Razorbacks since 1958 That’s 15straight losses.• • tYancev Price, Jerrell Price and Dr William Davis will be installed in the Texas Tech Athletic Hall of Fame during ceremonies at the Red Raider-Arizona football game Oct. 19 atJones Stadium in Lubbock Yancey was an end and halfback for Tech m 1931-33. Jerrellwas a ‘tackle in 1949-51. Dr. Davis was Tech’s facultyrepresentative and chairman of the athletic council in 1948-69.Both Prices are well remembered by Amarillo High Schoofootball fans. Yancey was an outstanding player for LubbockHigh in 1927-29 Jerrell was a great player for Brownfield Highin 1945-47.All three honorees live in Lubbock now.• • •Seven athletes from the Amarillo area have already been installed in the Texas Tech Athletic Hall of Fame They are Elmer Tarbox of Higgins. A coach trom Nebraska calledwanting to know if I knew why Tommy Duniven of McLeanwouldn't visit the university at Lincoln I found out later that Tommy wasn t interested going very .araway from McLean ^ .. oThe coach calling from Nebraska was Tom Osborne, then amember of the staff and now head coach He wasn’t calling me.I just happened to answer the phone when he called fromLincoln.That speaks well for the recruiting system at the University of Nebraska even if the Cornhuskers didn t land TommyDuniven.• • •Duniven probably would have enrolled at Oklahoma State ifhe hadn't signed with Texas Tech.Duniven seriously considered going to West Texas State. He not only lettered as a freshman, he was chosen as the •newcomer of the year” in the Southwest Conference He led Tech in scoring last season with ten touchdowns.Fullback John Garner is a senior from San Antonio McArthur. He has earned two letters He probably would have been the starting fullback last season but was slowed down with injuries.Flanker Lawrence Williams is a senior from Wichita balls High He has earned two letters and was placed on the All-Southwest Conference second team in 1973. He caught a 78-yard scoring bomb from Joe Barnes in the Tech (iator Bowl win over Tennessee He caught three touchdown passes from Duniven inthe 26-3 win over Texas Amarillo fans remember Williams well by his play againstthe Sandies for Wichita Falls High• • •Texas Tech meets Oklahoma State at 7 30 p. m. Saturday atLubbockThe situation is just opposite than it was last season. Oklahoma State was riding high with three straight wins and ranked nationally. Tech had won the first two games, but hadjust lost to Texas.Many followers figured Tech would be down mentally andphysically. The game was played at Stillwater Tech lost quarterback Joe Barnes early in the game, but Jimmv Carmichael stepped in and sparked the Raiders to a 20-7victory. .Now Tech is just coming off the big victory over Texas andOklahoma State just got knocked off by Baylor.Will Oklahoma State be able to recover and knock oft lechnow?Nothing is harder to figure than college football.................
