LEO HERMAN HOFFMANLeo Herman Hoffman, son of Edward and Augusta Mauer Hoffman was born December 21, 1893 at Arlington and passed away at his home Tuesday, September 23, 1969 at the age of 75 years.He was raised on the family farm and received his education in a rural school near Arlington.On October 4, 1922 he was united in marriage with Bertha Putnam at the Lutheran parsonage in Arlington with the Rev. Remboldt officiating. They made their home on a farm 2 miles east of Arlington where Leo was engaged in farming. To this union four children were born: Raymond, Kathleen, Vernita and Virginia. He continued to live on the farm until they retired and moved to Arlington in March of 1954.Leo became ill in November of 1965 and since that time has been confined to his home. Although unable to walk around he was always able to get up each day in his wheel chair.He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, William, and a sister, Hattie, and a son, Raymond who died in infancy.Surviving are his wife, Bertha; three daughters: Kathleen, Mrs. Derrel Johnson, Arlington; Vernita, Mrs. Bert Hardord, Marion; and Virginia, Mrs. Howard Harkin, Arlington; six grandchildren: Monte, Loren, and Liann Johnson; Marlene Chevalier of Cedar Rapids; and Max and Jan Harkin of Arlington.Funeral services were held September 25 at the Gleim Funeral Home in Arlington with the Pastor Vernon W. Fasse officiating. The casket bearers were Dorn Eckheart, Mike Cunningham, Leonard Gamm, Donald Jennings, Royden Putnam and Theodore Nus. Burial was in the Taylorsville Cemetery. Arrangements were made by the Gleim Funeral Home in Arlington.
