NEW CONCORD, Ohio — The Ohio Conference “Game of the Week” will be played in McConagha Stadium here Saturday night when the un beaten Muskies of Muskingum college will collide with the unbeaten Big Reds of Deni son University. It may even turn out to be the “Game of the Season”, for both teams are leading con tenders for the conference championship. The Muskies, after a one touchdown victory over Gen eva College of Pennsylvania, exploded their full power at Akron last Saturday night when they romped over a strong Akron University eleven, 26-7, before 31,000 fans in that city’s Rubber Bowl. “Denison is going to be a lot tougher,” Muskie Coach Ed Sherman predicted today as he prepared to concentrate this week on new defensive tactics to stop Denison’s off tackle power plays. Sherman appeared delight ed that his Muskies are being cast in the role of underdogs for the Saturday night game. It’s his favorite spot. From Granville came word that Denison looks upon Heidel berg and Wooster as the most difficult hurdles in their bid for the conference title. The Big Reds have rolled up 70 points against 13 for their opponents in the first two games, whereas the Muskin gum scoring has totaled 39 to 13 for its foes. “It is practically the same team that beat us 23-7 last year,” Sherman moans. Ten of the 11 ball-carrying backs who set an all-time Denison record for yards gained rushing are in the line up again this year. The Muskies will be try ing to stop a couple of hard driving senior halfbacks, Mar vin Smith of Newark and Darwin Zahn of Solon, O.,, while keeping an eye peeled for the sharpshooting passes of Bob Rhinehart, a freshman from Massillon, Coach Sherman, who is not easily pleased, had to admit that his Muskies did their work well Saturday night at Akron when Bill Frazier, sophomore halfback from Fredericktown, ran wild against the Zips to gobble up 135 yards in 23 tries for an average of 5.9 yards a carry. Freshman halfback Bill Cooper of New Philadelphia shared the ball-carrying chor es and, before the night was over, the Akron line found itself riddled by this pair of hard-slashing backfield stars. Particularly gratifying to Coach Sherman was the pass ing of Chick Beach, senior quarterback from Newark. Al though completing only four out of ten, one was for 30 yards and a touchdown, while several of those not com pleted were well-aimed. Saturday night’s game will start at 8 o’clock.
