Raynal Tenders His Resignationr\ iBeloved Minister Served 35 YearsAfter 35 years as pastor of the First Presbyterian Church Dr Charles E. Raynal has tendered his resignation, it was announced yes terday at the morning serviceDr. Raynal’s resignation was presented by Walter Gilbert, clerk of the session, and the congrega tion immediately passed a motion of regret that the well-known anc beloved local minister had felt, be cause of “failing health”, that it was necessary f^r him to step down.The congregation will meet next Sunday morning to act upon Dr. Raynal’s resignation. However, it will not become effective until Concord Presbytery has acted upon it October 17 at its meeting at Mooresville.Coming here in the fall of 1909, Dr. Raynal succeeded Dr. J. M. Wherry of Mooresville, who was serving as supply pastor following the resignation of Dr. C. M. Richards, who went to Davidson College as professor. He has been out standing in his work both here and in the Presbytery, and is one of the most widely-known Presbyter ian ministers in the state.Dr. Raynal is a member of the board of trustees of Mitchell College, a member of the Statesville Library Board, a past president of the Statesville Ministerial Association, and a member of the tSate Inter-Racial Commission.Chaplain Raynal Arrives On Coas'ttLt. (sg) Charles E. Raynal, Jr.. chaplain, U. S. Navy, has arrived on the west coast after 16 months in the South Pacific area, his parents, Dr. and Mrs. C. E. Raynal, were informed by telegram this morning.Lt. Raynal is expected home after a period of quarantine on the coast.t
