‘range €s Between Bear and Hog Puzzles Citizen-Scientist— Story Is Suggestive, Arkadelphia, Sept. 25.—The or ginal “Wampus Cat has been dis covered near Arkadelphia, captured, put on exhibition, admired by throngs of curiosity bent humanity, hunt effected Tas escape, all in three s. While hunting an Sepia lake, en miles sout of this city, on Monday, Ray Williams, a well-ro de and reliable colored citizen, with another black, while penetrating dense thickel, came upon the freak of the animal world. Williams’ at tendant fired hurriedly at the “rare mint,” which was coming in his di rection, and then fed pell mell; but Williams, keeping his serve and his mind, saw the peculiarity of the animal, and instead of shooting he waited its approach, and when at a lose distance he hurriedly laid the gun barrel across the beast’s neck, and with a hand at each end forced it to the ground. Calling the other negro for aid, he tied the “kitty” and brought it to civilization. All day Tuesday the animal was ad mired by Arkadelphia citizens, after which it made its escape Wednes day. The animal was lone of body and jaw. It was a glossy black on sides and back, while snow white spots flecked its beady. The belly of the animal was red. The great pe culiarity, however, was the struc ture of the feet. The forward feet were like those of a bear, having long claws, while the hind feet were cloven, like a hog's. The head is small with short hair. Teeth are long and white, showing when the animal's mouth is closed. The fur on the animal is very beautiful and long. All who saw it describe the animal as being the most beautiful gandorned they have ever seen. Somewhere in this city or the river woods near here, the beast is hid den, and its captor, lamenting his loss, is offering 8100 reward for its return. Searching parties with dogs have attempted to discover its whereabouts, but as yet have not a trail or a crew. The place where the animal was captured is an ex cellent hunting ground, and used to be infested swamp bears, but this freak hardly answers the de scription of a bear. c —=— What will you take for that cough you have Bill?
