PENALTY FIXED AT TWO YEARSJury Returns Verdict of Guiltv in Case of L. B. Boon, Charged With Carnal Abuse.The jury in the case of L. B. Boon, charged with carnal abuse, after being out but a short while Tuesday afternoon, returned a verdict of guilty as charged in the indictment and fixed the penalty at two years in the penitentiary. The verdict was a compromise between those who voted for acquittal and others who favored the maximum sentence of twenty-one years.Boon has yet to answer trial for rape, but this case can hardly come up at this term of court, as the Lawrence county circuit court convenes next Monday. The attorneys for Boon have filed a motion for a new trial in the case i.lready passed upon.Able arguments were made by S. M. I Stuckey and Prosecuting Attorney ! Oldfield for the state and by O. A. Hilihou8e, W. S. Wright and J. M. Slayton for the defendant.
