WAS IT A METEOR. FLYING SAUCER OR ROCKET ?CLARE PEOPLE SEE HEAVENLY PHENOMENAWHILE motoring from the vicinity of Stanley, Flat School to the Main North highway on Saturday night Sept. 27, at 8.55 p.m., Mrs. J. Wiles, of Clare, reports six people saw a Rocket, Meteor or flying Saucer ? The party included Mr. and Mrs. R. Hunt, of Clare, Mr. and Mrs. J. Wiles of Clare, and Mr. and Mrs. J. Haigh, of Stanley Flat, and the car pulled up to observe the strange event.A ball of fire in two sections with flaming tails went across the sky about 1 mile high and parallel to the earth, going North to South. There was u clear sky and no sound as it disappeared after 20 seconds. They say it was travelling faster than an aeroplane, but not as fast as a meteor, and was more like a rocket. The same feature waa observed in many parta of the State.Mr. Jack Davis, of Spring Farm, reports through Mr. E. V. Dunn, that he saw a bright luminous object in the North Eastern sky, low down and parallel with Hill River Hill. It was a sort of oval .shape, j moving quickly. First thought was a searchlight or car light going up Hill River Hill and differed from a meteor, lasting much longer. He had an unobstructed view.Misses Denise Gillen. Mary Prowse, Fay Robinson, of Clare, and Miss Eileen Kelly (Jamestown) and Miss Judith Gillen, of Brighton, also saw it while they were going into the dance at the Stanley Flat Hal). They thought it waa aeroplane lights or car lights, reflecting in the sky. but on second thoughts it was much too high and travelling at speed.Mr. T. R. Brooks of Clare, saw it at 8.50 while motoring at Hoyleton. First thought it was aeroplane lights travelling parallel, with bright light and tail of fire following.rvItiiJr,8:ii)
