Mrs. Lucinda Rays, wife of C\ L. Hays, died at their home in Eldora at 9:80 Monday morniDg Sept. 27th 1897, after a painful illness extending back for six months.She was born near OskalooBa, Iowa, May 1st 3860, her parents being Newton and Margaret Jackson. She was | married to 0. L. Hays, Sept. 11th 1888, while the two were attending Drake University, from which they graduated together in the class • of ’84. For the last twelve years they haye lived in Eldora, She leaves one son, Wendell, aged 12 years. Her mother, one brother and two sisters survive her. The brother is John F. Jackson of Knoxville, and the sisters are Mrs. Alice Bacon, of Osceola, and Mrs. J. H. Auld, of Knoxville, Iowa. She was an active member of the church of Christ, and her services in religouswork was highly appreciated by mem-,bezs of the church.Last week she was thought to be improving, but a post mortem proved that her complications were past medical skill.The funeral took place from the family residence Thursday at 1:30 p. m., conducted by Bev. A. M. Hag-j gard, of Oskaloosa, assisted by Rev3. C. E. Wells and E. Kent, of Eldora. Mr Haggard was a college class mate of both Mr, and Mrs. Hays. A wife, a mother has passed from earth life, A life of love and tenderness has ended, but the influence of a good example is left to fructify and grow in the lives of others.
