Cart. Bortsarieto, Company A, Bth Regt. M. Y., started from this point on Monday, en route for Abercrombie, to relieve Company G, of the 0th, which has boen ordered South. Orb Boamas was one “high the early part of the week, and no doubt whether it could have been socertained how many (ons of ¢teer sand were forced down the throsts, or thrown Wa ceremoniously in the eyes of those who at tempted to promenade our street at that time. Wa hope the next tints he got a one bender, that he will have some regard for our hat— it’s the only one we have and now goods have not‘arrived —and not take it entirely off until we get maide nearer the ladie and if It In etiquette to be relieved of of peau om anc occasions, we hope, for our ex treme youth sake, said hhat won't be rolled in quile such close proximity to the aforesaid la- Srut Tuer Comm !—In addition to the train of fifty teams to beld out by the Mesars, Burbank Co., we have just learned that they have been awarded the contract of transport ing the supplies for Hatch's Battalion from a), via St. Cloud, to Pembina. The train will consist of one huddred and eighty teams, which, allowing the cawal space of thirty-six feet to each team, will make the trade over one mile in length. We exhort every man in this part of the community who has a team, to “file in,” he can engage in no business this sea son of the year that will pay better, and she’d by all means avail himself of this last oppor tunity of the present season, as there is al ready a perfect rush from every direction by those determined to have a chance—adver tisement. —Bee Advertisements of “Proposals for Wood,” “Wanted” such “Notice.” Carr. W. HK. Not with J. C. H.C. Burbank Co., of this place, has returned to St. Paul “for a few days,” for the purpose, we are told, of recruiting shattered health; ‘but that old Benedict who has been in the of fice with him, suggests that the little captain looks just like he did, when he was afflicted with a “shattered heart and thinks the “re cruiting” will be a mess-mate for life, and perhaps more too. Hope he will come improv ed in body and mind, and that his example may be followed by his associates “up there.” Life is uncertain, Death is sure. The wealthest men of to-day, may by some unex pected misfortune, be by to-morrow the most indigent. Riches often take wings and leave those who possessed to mourn the com forts and pleasures their wealth once brought them. The sorrows and inconveniences of poverty, fall with terrible effect upon the wid ow and the orphan, and eight times out of ten, they are to bear the hardships, which a fleet ing fortune entails. A Life Insurance alone provides against all such contingences; and any married man who fails to secure his be loved family and independence by means of a Life Policy—especially whom it can be done with such a small expenditure of funds—is cer tainly unmindful of one of the greatest duties he can possibly owe to his family. The Wisconsin Mutual Life Insurance Com pany are now offering facilities that ought to induce every man in this county to take a pol icy. See advertisement of their agent in the week's issue. Boots and Snots.—Those in want of Boots! ‘end Sheen will do well to read the advertise ment of Wm. J. Ovatix Bivoon.—If extensive preparation in any index to results, we should already pronounce Messrs. Egle Hill’s Oyster Sal Joon and restaurant, a perfect success. They are sitting up their rooms in a style that will meet with the patronage, their efforts deserve. Our citizens are an appreciative people, and we speak for them crowded rooms. New Mirt.—Leander Gorton informs us that his men smitinn Sauk River is all ready for the machinery which by the way was ship ped from Utica last week. The building is calculated for four run of stones, and it is Mr. Gorton's intention, to have the best mill in the Northwest and we know every housewife will respond with a hearty Amen, Da. J. W. Weex's new dwelling house is nearly completed. When finished it will be quite as ornament to that part of our city. Mr. H. C. Burbank’s fine brick building on the rash, Is also progressing finely. TRAVEL To St. CLouv.—The travel over’ Burbank’s Co.’slime of stages from St. Paul to this city is perfectly immense. It is sel dom that both coaches are not heavily loaded. ‘Much of this consists in families coming here to make it their home. On Monday, when we came up, was a family from Ohio who in tended settling in this place. One of thed era informed us that on his previous trip he had brought three families for the same desti nation, and that scarcely a day passed but that he had one or more who interred locating in Bt. Cloud. The name of the place and its' prosperity seems to be in everybody's mouth, and many are the inquiries made by those from abroad, and people residing in other por tions of the State, concerning it. Atmos? a Fyne.—We are informed that Lib by's Mill situated at Watab, came very near being destroyed by fir on Monday, 28th inst, and was only waved by almost superhuman e forts. The fire originaed in the enmy room, and had it not been discovered immediately af terwards, or had the wind been blowing from another direction, one among thest lumber part of the country would have very destroyed. It behooves people to be careful of fire during the high winds so prevalent here during this season of the year. Fine Issuxan¢t.—The season is approach ing when the greatest danger is to be feared from fires, and it behooves off to provide against a contingency that may occur at any time, by insuring in a good company: his can easily be done by applying to L. A. Evan Esq., agent of the Home Insurance C ease and reliable institution —who will issue a policy on fair terms. Dr. W. R. Hunter has well advanced to ward completion a large addition to his loase, which will add very much to its appearance. Maarnn for October is here promptly and bes a large number of historical and library articles, Aercanvic.—The current number of this ‘standard magazine contains contributions from Charles Sumner, John G. Promorev.—Lieut. J. H W. Raymond, €o. L, First M. M. K., has been promoted to be First Lieutenant vice Ambrose Freeman, who was killed by the Indians. This Company, under command of Capt. Taylor, is stationed at Fort Ripley. The Annual Stock Fair, for this county, was held at St. Jo on the 29th inst, and was well attended by farmers and others interested in the improvement of stock. Quite display of fine cattle and sheep were on exhibition and changed hands at fair prices. We learn that not only drovers, Brokers and farmers were present but that even Fowlers made their ag~ _pearatee on the grounds and with ready amiles set their wares for s—t—o—swie ginss' Lager Beer. _We dropped in this morning at the Old Pi oneer Store and found Mr. Edelbrock busily unpacking and arranging his new stock of Pall and Winter goods. From the quantity of every description we saw in store, and many more to arrive, our old friend Joseph must count on a heavy trade for St Cloud this com ing season. We knew that owing to his long ‘experience with the business of St. Cloud, his Judgment in reference to the trade 14 seldom ‘at feult, Call in and see for yourselves—at : will pay. —We thought, the early part of the weck, that the apparently inebriated state of the et mosphere would require some remedy that would effectually restore an equilibrium, and, sure enough—alapathic physicians to the contrary notwithstanding—relief came in hy dropathia' applications of about forty barrels of very cold water to the aquare foot, com pletely soothing the troubled winds, and giv ing us the sound of pattering rain drops, in stead of boisterous guste of wind laden with a moderate sized gravel.
