The party, iaostiy from Crow Wiug, consisted of niuo perfcous. The survey was completed in •bout two week*.That portion of the road between the Military Kond and Millc Luc, being fifty-li'.c miles in length, is completed. The farming land along that road will compare favorably with any farming land iu Minnesota J’robably uinc-tcuths of thu whole is got i land.TSie di-lance from the western end of the fini-hed road to Crow Wing is thirty-nine miles, making the whole distance fiom Superior one hundred and twenty-seven mites. The road follows along the shores of Millc Lao for fcbout twelve mill's. The s-.il aroundthe luko is a very rich eamiy loam; the timber is principally butternut, hack berry, white and burr oak, maple and elm. The lake is abonc fifteen miles wide and twenty-five miles long.The portion of country lying west of J'J'lta.Lau is much bettor adapted to building a road tluin the custom end, as the route surveyed passes’ through on open, comparatively dry and sparely timWed icgiou ; it is iuteispcrsod with small-jultcs though the soil is uo't so good for farmingpurposes.^ Qily about one mile, altogether will require corduroy!ug; very little heavygrubbing will be needed. That portion, of tbc road can be built at a cost not exceeding one third of the coat per milo of the portion already completed.
