Ollie Murren’s here since 1876The first subject in the Who Are You column is Mr Oliver Glee Murren. The Murren family dates back to 1876 in this area when his father Joshua, then 21, and his parents Tom and Eliza Merrill Murren came to the Memory area. . ____Dawson Holton, Joshua’s brother-in-law was already in the area. Dawson later moved to Braddyville where he had a hardware store and implement dealership.Tom Murren and his family came here from Hillsboro, Ohio. He was one of three brothers with one staying in the East, one settling near Grant City, Mo, and Tom coming here. Tom had fought for the Union Army during the Civil War and his brother fought with the south. Though they lived near each other, they had little to do with one another after the war. Tom was injured in the back during the war and was crippled the rest of his life.Joshua married Jemima Ridenour whose family had come to the Hepburn area in 1869 when Jemima was four years old. Her father, William, was a farmerand also helped build the St Joe Railroad south of Villisca. William and Devora Miller Ridenour had come here from . Pennsylvania.Ollie, born May 2,1888, is one of six brothers and two sisters. His brothers Earl and Harold live in Clarinda and Shelby is a New .Market resident. They were all born and raised near Guss.Ollie and Dora Schroder of Westboro, Mo, were married on Jan 23, 1912 in Clarinda. They lived near North Page until the depression years when they moved to a farm near Hawley-ville in 1933. They had eight children, five girls and three sons. Wilma Frodsham and Catherine Calhoon are daughters. Dora died in 1965. Sons are Oliver Jr of Villisca, John of Afton and Gene of Denver.Ollie married Gertrude Van-derholm Klang on Sept 16, 1966.
