The Good Neighbor basketball league, comprised of Wakeman, Townsend, Kipton, Birmingham, Ber lin Heights, and Brighton, wil begin its second year in operation this week with all six members of the credit getting into action Birmingham and Townsend, co winners of the league camponship last season, face tough battles in Berlin Heights and Kipton, respec tively Berlin Heights, holder of a on point victory over Milan this season, is classed as the dark forse of the league. With several of last year's varsity Members back, and with a year's experience back of them, the Heights quintet is expected to furnish plenty of opposition for her rivals Birmingham, while losing several of their key men, are by no means a setup in the league this year, and the fact that they lost some worthy pedurt “performers, oney also, are expected to make the road to the Wague title a bumpy one for the op position. Townsend has drawn 4 career for its opening game as Kipton, ih? Camden township quintet sp °ring the perfect league record last season. Al though they have lost to LaGrange and to the Alumni, Hipton has shown rapid improvements in their games and practice and makes them one of the teams to be rechanged with when the loop title winnes are being discussed The boys from Collins gave Ne walk fans an exhibition of good and bad basketball here last week when they topped St. Paul’s 31 to 25. With the exception of the second quarter, the Townsendites played heads-up ball, but an amazing let-down the second period almost cost them the contest, Wakeman high school cagers, min us the services of their ace, Boyle, who was one of the bright spots in their lineup last season, will invade Brighton for their opener. Brighton was the doormat for the rest of the league teams during the 1937-38 campaign but according to all reports, the basketball ferries in Brighton have taken a turn for the better and Wakeman ‘s in for a busy night of basketball. Due to the Huron county muse festival at New London sitday, the Townsend-Kipton game has then moved up to Thursday agar. The Wakeman-Brighton clash is also booked for Thursday uouth while Berlin Heights and Birmingham play Friday.
