Eighteen farm and ranch residents of Lima County are running for three Agricultural Stabilization and Con servation (ASC) community com mittees, says County ASCS Executive Director John Burris The mail election for ASC community committeemen is his month, and ballots have been mailed to all persona eligible to vote in the former committee elections. The final date for mailing voted ballots, or for dropping them off at the county ASCS office, is Dec. 3 Ballots will be counted Dec. 6, in the county ASCS office, 22) W. Spruck, Geiaing, with the public invited to attend. On Dec. 13, the newly elected com munity committeemen will hold a county convention to nominate and elect one county committee member and two alternates, Burris said. The newly elected county committee Member will serve for three years; the alternates for one year. ASC community committeemen not only elect members of the ASC county committee, but also assist the countly commmittee throughout the year in the administration of federal farm programs locally, according to Burris, in Luna County’, the’ principal farm programs are [eed grain and cotton. In the community committee mail election, farmers in each community will elect three committee members, and two alternates, all to serve one year terms. Burris pointed out that any farmer who is eligible to take part in any ASCS Program is eligible to vote in the mail election. Voting eligibility is deter mined oul regard (a race, sex, color, religion or national origin. A list of known eligible voters is on ile at the county ASCS office, and is open for public inspection, “If a man or woman feels he or she is eligible to vote and is not listed, just call it to the attention of anyone in the of fice, and it will be checked out right away,’ he said. Farmers might also want to check at the county office to be sure which ASCS community they are in, the executive director said.
