Docker Esq ’s, J.P. vOne person was charged with dnnkennesa and being his first offence, was cautioned bad 4 discharged. jjAnnual Auctioneers Licensing Meeting.—The Clork of the Court informed th# Bench that only one application, that of William Hopkins was filed within the tim# prescribed by la*. He himself had ventured to write applications for three others, who no doubt had forgotten to do so themselves. He presumed the Bench would not object to grant the certificates. Certificates were therefore granted to William Hopkins for a General License and to William Gosper, John Thomas Smith, and George Guest, for District Licenses for the year 1874.Before J M., M'Quade, B. Richard’s, J. Ducker, W. Lam rock, Esq’s J.P’i.Edwards v. Cox.Sarah Edwards complained that Mr. 8loper Cox was indebted to her in the sum of £60 for wages.Mr. Garling appeared on behalf of Mr. Cox, and pleaded not indebted.Mr. A. B. Neilson informed the Bench that he should watch the oase on the part ofplaintiff.Sarah Edwards deposed : That she lived atRichmond and knew Mr. Sloper Cox. She had done washing and scouring for him for 18 months, for which she charged him £15. It was 25 years ago since she worked for defendant. Her daughter had been in his employment for four years, and for this she charged him 5s. per week. This made £67, but she gave Mr. Cox credit for some meal, flour, tea, and sugar that she had had to the value of £16 or £17. It was sixteen years since her daughter was in the service of Mr. Cox. Her daughter was alive and married.Mr. Garling hero said that he would like to explain the circumstances of the case.Mr. M*Quade : You can go in the box give evidence, and you can now ask plaintiff any questions you wish.The plaintiff in her evidence in chief stated that Mr Cox paid her £1 2s. 6d. about two months ago, and in answer to Mr. Garling said that when this money was given to her Mr. Cox promised to be up in Richmond again shortly, and pay her more.This closed the plaimfTs ease : for the defence Mr. Garling, who stated that he was manager at Hobartville : deposed that for the last oicvcn years ho knew tha
