Died, on Wednesday morning, Novem ber 23, 1970, Mr. D. H. Rankin, aged fifty-three years and fifteen days. The deceased was the founder and editor of this paper, and for seventeen years did a successful business. He was one of the eldest editors in Texas, having occupied the chair in this State for some thirty years—its first connection being in the establishment of the Red Lander in 1934, Stenham Enquirer, 25th. The 1st day of next month, is the day set apart for the Stock Convention, which is to meet in this place. We hope there may be a full attendance of stock men from all our western counties—espe cially those for which Indianola is the shipping point, as it is the earnest desire of the Stock Association that proper steps may be made for the inspection of every head of stock, etc., which may be shipped from that point.—[Victoria Advocate, 25. Our friend Woodburn, who has just re turned from a trip to Llano, Mason and other western countes, informs us that parties have recently discovered gold de posits in Llano county, and that there is some excitement in that section in refer ence thereto. Several old Spanish mines and works have been discovered, and be sides an abundance of iron, gold, silver and lead have been found. He learned that a company with a capital of $100, 000 had been formed and were soon to com mence work at these mines.—[Frontiers man.
