Uo was educated in Cabarrus schools and in 1S?2 was married to Mum Missouri Fiaber, daughter of Mr. Georgo W. Fisher. Unto this union nine child ren were born, Are having died c some years ago.e 1 The early life of Mr Brown wa* e spent upon the farm eu inwhile operating a rot ton ginnery two miles west of this city, he was caught under a shifting, losing thereby in* left leg. Shortly after this lie engaged in the manufacture of brick with primitive facilities nod from a plant with an output of 5,000 a day de veloped to a capacity of 75,000 brick a day. He was associated in the brick business with his sons, I- A. and J. T.. Brown, the firm name twin R. A. Brown Sons. He was the principal stockholder and prime mover in the establishment of the Brown Manufacturing Company, ot which he was secretnrv. treasurer and general manager. He waa once J prominent figure in the mercantile business of the city, being a member of the firm of Brown d: Shaffer.Mr. Brown was familiarly known throughout the country as ‘•Bn.-’1 Brown, being a eonvraetor of great prominence. Under his snpervi-rion practically every eolf »n mill, storehouse and church of this city: every brick building in Albemarle, aid some of Gastonia. Gaffnev. Bessemei nty, Winnsboro. Rock Ilill. flitn-lotte. Salisbury. Davidson. Iluntei -villc, China Grove and elsewhere were built bv him. Several years ago the Concord Realty and Railway I .» n pany was organized with Mr. Brown as president and general innnnger. A franchise was secured and nearly all the necessary money was ready f*r beginning construction, but owing t*. declining health, nothing has been done in that line within the past few months. Mr. Brown was an important factor in the business circles of the eitv and has amassed n considerable fortune.
