*-TilH ASYLIM MI DDLE.The following editorial taken from ' the Winston County Journal, Louisville, relative to the continued efforts of Gov- t ernor Bilbo to block relief for the poor ' unfortunates confined in the wretched structures r.t Jackson is explanatory: 1“The people of the State had hardly -time to enjoy a breath of relief over ' the decision of the Supreme Court, in which the Insane Asylum Committee \ would be allowed to go ahead with the i comp'etion of that institution, which meant so much to the suffering inmates of the place, when the Governor comes forth with the threat to block its com- ; pletion again, by ignoring the decision of the Court, the highest authority of the State. We are just wondering if this act on the part of this accident, is not the ‘straw that broke the camel's back.’ and will produce an uprising of ' the people which has been needed for some time.“We have thought for a number of years, that if there is a hell other than on this earth, which few doubt, there is going to be a great wailing and gnashing of teeth from a source little expec ted by mar.v people when they get ‘down yonder.’ It will be for the awful neglec and forgetfulness on the part of people, as to their loved ones who are unfortunately incarcerated in the dun-geo:.^ of our average insane asylum.In the dispensation of His punishment, which is, like all of His work, just and consistent, we are unable to imaginehow lie can overlook the proneness of our people to forget—in many cases absolutely—their own flesh and blood, when the mind is unfortunately gone, yet they are able to suffer physical pain alcr.g with their mental disease and pair. *jr.t;! death relieves them.’’rdor the most favorable conditions it difficult to render comfort to the insane. And the blood would run cold in many a man and woman of our State, if they only knew what is going on in our State insane asylums—and they could know it. if it were not for that inhuman proneress to forget, and leave them to their fate when they are sent there. And to see the whole people of n State set supinely by and see the deviltry going on. to delay as important a thing as our insane asylum, will no doubt bring about a curse on the heads of more than Mississippi's Governor. We know this is pretty hard language, but we only regret that the laws of the land prevent us from writing what we would like to ‘ay in this connection.
