*—THE ASYLUM MI DDLE.The following editorial taken from the Winston County Journal, Louisville, relative to the continued efforts of Governor Bilbo to block relief for the poor unfortunates confined in the wretched structures nt Jackson is explanatory:The people of the State had hardly time to enjoy a breath of relief over the decision of the Supreme Court, in which the Insane Asylum Committee would be allowed to go ahead with the completion of that institution, which meant so much to the suffering inmates of the place, when the Governor comes forth with the threat to block its com pletion again, by ignoring the decisior of the Court, the highest authority oi the State. We are just wondering i: this act on the part of this accident, i: not the 'straw that broke the camel’! back.' and will produce an uprising o the people which has been needed foi some time.“We have thought for a number o: years, that if there is a hell other that on this earth, which few doubt, then is going to be a great wailing anc gnashing of teeth from a source littli expected by many people when they ge ‘down yonder.’ It will be for the awfu neglect and forgetfulness on the part o people, as to their loved ones who an unfortunately incarcerated in the dun geor.s of our average insane asylum In the dispensation of His punishment which is, like all of His work, just anlt;consistent, we are unable to imaginhow lie can overlook the proneness o our people to forget—in many cases ab solutolv—their own flesh and blood when the mind is unfortunately gone yet they are able to suffer physical pai: along with their mental disease an pair, death relieves them.Under the most favorable condition it difficult to render comfort to th insane. And the blood would run col in many a man and woman of our Statlt; if they only knew what is going on i our State insane asylums—and the; could know it. if it were not for th: inhuman proneness to forget, and leav them to their fate when they are ser there.
