Dr. G. 0. Becks, to preach the discourse in the 1st Presbyterian Church on Thursday next a* X\\{, ■o’clock A. M.They have also agreed to recoin mend that contributions be made upon that day for the relief of the sufferers in Kansas. It seems appropriate that Christiana of different congregations .should unite in n cumtnon gratitude as they recognize substantially a Ciiinniuii faith; and that while thankful fur our own benefits *rc should remember the need of others.Since these arrangements werO made, a similar proposition has been made elsewhere, and -recommended bv the Executive of this Slate. It is desired that those wiio cannot be person --ally present, should send their euntnbulions .by so mu other person.S lirrKCTED.The fraud itppeais clearly to liaye been effected in tliis way: The box of bills was broken open and live thousand impressions, or thereabout, abstracted. My affidavit was cither forged or altered so as to conform to the number of impressions actually forwarded. The Auditor informs me that my letter did not state the number printed, and that the inscription on (he the plates now in his possession which roads, 1-7,000 impressions printed” on one plate, and ”6,001) impressions printed” on the other plate, was obscured by the twine tied around cnch plate. This was unfortunate, for, had these inscriptions been noticed, the forgery of my affidavit would have been delected at once through tho discrepancy in the statements as to the number, printed. ;I wrote the inscriptions on the plates myself, but my IbiTiiimi sealed them up and wound a piece of twine around each and sealed the ends, so that the plates could not be seen without cutting the twine. Again, it was an accident that lira plates were sent lo the Auditor at all; as 1 first sent them lo the Artisans’ bank; in this city, tu despusit them to the or order of the Auditor, but the bank declined renut giving me a certificate of ib-IbetvloenHOu!posit.X will say, 011 information from the Audili Unit ho is hopeful, that his action has been prompt, that the authors of the fraud, inai as they are, will hardly realize enough Lo inn it. pay, even should they escape the punishmc llu*y merit.I will say further, on my own behalf, that ir this experience leaches me anything, it is never tu trust the President and Cashier of am-bank again.
