DINNER TO JOSEPH HUME,, Es*. M.P.FmrsAY, the entertainment by the citizens of Edinburgh, to Mr. Hume was given in the Waterloo Hotel. Upwards of 500 gentlemen were present. Leonard Horner, Esq. was in the chair; Robert Ferguson, Esq', of Raithy officiated as Croupier.When the cloth was drawn, the Chairman, gave 44 The King,” 44 The Duke of York, and the rest of the Royal Family”—44 The Army and Navy”—44 The Duke of Sussex,” c.—All these toasts were drankgreat applause.The Chairman rose td propose the health of Mn Hume, and expatiated on the public life of that gentleman in a neat speech, which he thus concluded—--44 Proud as we feel in paying this deserved tribute to the signal; merits of' our distinguished guest, the spectacle which this room exhibits must, I am sure, be no less a source of pride and gratification to him. Here is the capital of his native land; he witnesses a vast assemblage of its most intelligent and independent inhabitants eagerly pressing forWard to do homage to his public virtues. There is notofoe'amongst us who can have come to this meeting from any feeling of obligation for personal favours already bestowed, or from any hope that it may be the means of obtaining them hereafter.
