Dear Editor. On Nov. 16, Marie (Rosselit) Myers died, a woman who was in volved in many civic groups during her lifetime. The Delphos Public Library is proud to say that we were included in her list of duties, and would like to expound on those achievements. In 1917, 21-year-old Marie Rosselit was hired as the new librarian for the Delphos Public Library. In these days, the library employed but one person to run the operation, which in 1917 was only five years old. Miss Rosselit had no experience with a library, but the board sent her to study at the Sidney Public Library for six weeks, followed by a summer course at the Michigan School for Librarians in 1919. Library finances were slim in those days, relying on donations for most of the new books, but in December 1919, disaster struck when the library boiler cracked in four parts. Marie operated the little Carnegie Building for three years with only a makeshift potbellied stove. Even with such circumstances, Marie started the first Children’s Story Hour in 1919, and Children’s Book Week in November. Marie Rosselti left the position of librarian in 1923 to become Mrs. Charles Myers, but her interest in libraries continued. In 1965, the Delphos City School Board appointed her to a position on the library board, a post she retained until this year due to failing health. During her tenure as a library board member, Marie was always interested in the progress of the library and ably served her community. In any agency or institution, there are many people who con tribute to its growth, and Marie Myers was one of ours. Alan Hall Delphos Librarian and Board of Trustees Delphos Public Library
