South Garland divided a pair of contests with W.T. White and Pinkston, while North Garland dropped a return match with Wilmer- Hutchins, in non-district girls’ basketball earlier in the week. The SG girls defeated W.T. White for the second time this year, 36-22, when the contest was stopped on Monday in the fourth quar ter, when too many W.T. White players had fouled out of the game. At the half, the Colonels had piled up a 32-8 lead over the Longhorns Danette Downs fired in 25 points to lead South Gar land in the win, as Donna Webb added seven points. Also starting for the Colo nel girls in the match were Julie Gill, Susie Grubbs, Shawn Williams and Lynn McCorstin, while Kim Kay and Christie Neill were the top substitutes. Also com peting in the second half of were Shannon Mont gomery, Rhenee_ Gill, Vickie Allen and Dana Ni chols The North Garland girls’ squad had beaten Wilmer Hutchins in the two teams initial meeting, but Wilmer won the second contest on Tuesday from the Raiders, 52-37 in the Eagles’ home run. “It was the first time for the girls to play away from home, and it was a new experience, but they did a good job,” explained NG coach Teresa Hudson. Janiece Hudson had 24 points in the game for North Garland, while Dana Verble scored four, as Suz anne Hallman, Carla Har rell, Liz Asher and Tam mie Moore also started for the Raiders. Substituting were Lori Snyder, Martha Cook, Jackie Pace, Vicki Dopson and Beverly Col bert. The NG junior varsit also fell in its game with Wilmer-Hutchins, as Carie Doyle, Susan Ledbetter, Terri Teel, Crystal Nei sweinder, Donna Cook and Christie Harris were the North Garland starters. Kerry Wallace, Debbie Terry, Lisa Malkey, Becky Pennington and Lisa Tay lor also substituted in the match. The South Garland girls’ team dropped its Tuesday encounter at the SG gym to Dallas Pinkston, 46-33, al though the Colonels came back strongly after falling behind at the half by 30-13. “I thought in the second half that Lynn McCorstin, Shawn Williams and Kim Kay did an outstanding job on the defensive end of the court, noted SG coach Judy Thompson. On the of fensive side, Danette Downs tossed in 27 points, with Julie Gill getting four and Donna Webb two. Also against Pinkston, the South Garland JV lost a close 31-29 decision, after leading at the half, 15-11. Debbie Jones paced SG in scoring with 19 points, as other competitors included Lisa McCorstin, Keira Wil liams, Barita Wilson, Rene Schwalm, Kelly McBride and Rhenee Gill
