The first chapter of the Colon ial Dames XVII Century to be organized in the North Valley will honor William Brown Ide, first and only president of the Bear Flag Republic of Califor nia, by using the Ide name. Organization will take place at a luncheon meeting at 11 a.m., Nov. 29, at Prospector’s Vil lage in Oroville. Chapters of the society choose as a name that of a woman or man who played a significant role in colonial life in the 17th century. The group has chosen to be known as ‘*The Martha Bliss Ihe Chapter. ’ Martha Bliss, born in Bel stone, England, married Nath aniel Ide, born at Ide, Devon shire, England, who came to New Plymouth Colony in 1636. They were the great-great great -grandparents of William B. Ide, born Mar. 28, 1796 in Rutland, Mass., who emigrated to California in 1845. Membership in the society is by invitation. Eligible are any American women of good moral character 18 years of age and over, acceptable to the society and who are lineal descendants of an ancestor who gave civil or military services and who lived in one of the 11 British Colonies prior to 1701. Docu mentary proof for each gener ation must be supplied. Mrs. William T. Holt of Oro ville, former member of the Priscilla Alden chapter in Sac ramento, will preside as organ izing president of the new chap ter. Officers will be elected and installed, MAY BE NEEDED Sweet foods, such as jams, pastries and cakes lend inter est to meals and may provide needed calories for active child ren and adults.
