Galveston District Office For States Marine AgencyGalveston is district headquarters for seven pods served by States Marine Isthmian Agency Inc.The local office not only handles vessel operations at the Port of Galveston, but those calling at Texas City, Freeport, Lake Charles, Orange, Beaumont and Port Arthur as well. An office maintained at Beau-mnnt is riircclly under iho Galveston operation, There are J7 persons employed in the local office.Slates Marine - Isthmian j Agency handles all Slates Ma- j rinc Line ships, Isthmian Line] vessels and serves as berthing j ngcnl for Bloomfield Steamship Co.Established In 19-15 States Marine offers sailings from all coasts of the U. S. with -12 services between 33 countries and 190 ports. The Galveston office was established In 19-15 and maintains preferential docking space at piers 30-33.Vessels of the Bloomfield line offer service from Galveston to North Europe and the United Kingdom and States Marine ships offer regular sailings to the Par East and Mediterranean ports.Isthmian Line ships ply the waters from Galveston to India, Burma, the Persian Gulf, Mediterranean ports and t h e Red Sea.Inlei coastal services between Gulf and Pacific ports and from Pacific lumber porls lo Atlantic ports also are offered.Bagging and TeaImports usually consist of bagging, jtile and tea from India and frequent shipments of sleel from Europe. Exports range from cot Inn to flour, rice and other commodities.Forly-six vessels sail under the u. S.-flag from Stales Ma-1 :t.rinc and Isthmian Lines regularly along with numerous chartered vessels.The company's main headquarters is located in New York with other offices located throughout the U. S.Vice PresidentHead of the local operations is Hugh K. Jones, a vice president of the agency. He has been active in Galveston maritime circles fur more than 20 years and is a member of 1 h e Wharves Board of Trustees.He joined States Marine in ITM5 and has heen with them ever since.An admiral in the Texas Navv, Jones is past president of the Galveston Maritime Association. Propeller Club and vice president of the Propeller Club of the U. S.States Marine - Isthmian also maintains a district office at Houston. The Bayou City headquarters handles s h i ps at Corpus Chrisli and Brownsville.Receives AwardA Galveston longshoreman has received a safety award for his foresight in preventing an accident by wearing safety shoes lo work.Henry B.
