Motion for New Trial Overuled. The motion for a new trial in the case of Mathew Ollihan, negro, charged with the murder of Orbie Standlee, young white farmer of Celeste, which was entered by Ollson’s attorneys yes terday was overruled by Judge Hall this morning Attorneys Looney and Por ter, appointed for the defense, imme diately gave notice of appeal. The defendant, Matthew Oliison, through his attorneys, Looney and Porter, filed the petition for a new trial late yesterday afternoon with the district clerk. The petition, which is quite lengthy, recites many reasons why the defen dant should be granted a new trial. Among them being that at the time of the trial it was impossible for defen dant to get a fair and impartial trial due to the existing circumstances in volving the case and sets forth the case of Glenn Collins, also a negro, charged with the murder of Addison Moore; that the public was aforehand prejudiced in the case; the various er rors of the court in its charge to the jury, and the refusal of certain testi mony in connection with the case. It also sets forth that the case of Glenn Collins reflects on the case, and con tains excerpts from the local press giv ing detailed accounts of the attempt of the mob to seize the negro.
