DEMII OF VALENTINE WALTERHad Been a Resident of La-Grange County for Over a tUflf CenturyValentine Walter, one of LaGrange county's moat respected citizens, died last Friday afternoon at 3 o’clock at bia home on Grant street at the age %f 73 years. He had been an invalid for several years, but had been seriously ill only about two weeks.Mr. Walter was born in Tuscarawas county, O., April 17, 1346, and was a son of John Walter, who died in 1884. When he was about three years old his parents moved to Butler, DeKalb county, where they resided 15 years, coming from there to LaGrange county in 1865. During the most of his residence in this county Mr. Walter followed the occupation of farming, living weat of LaGrange. For the past few years, On account of failing health he bad lived a retired life.On January 31, 1867. he was united in marriage to Lydia Ann Shipley, who with their oldest son, Burritt S. Walter, nW treasure r. of. LaGipffige county, survives him.'liy had^one other son, John Orva, who died at the age of one year. Mr. Walter was one of a family of 12 children, six of whom are ctUl living. These are Mrs. Mary M. Wilkin, Mrs. William Babcock, Mis. Etta Hissong. Mrs. Elmer Steele, Mrs. Frank Machan and Hiram Walter, all of LaGrange and vicinity. There are four grandchildren: Rollo NRdsiell L.r MonroeAVffiter^ My*. Forrest Aldrich. The sister and brothers who preceded him in death we re Lydia, Philip, John, William and Monroe.Mr. Walter was confirmed in Mount Zion Lutheran chtjrth in 1865 under the pastorate of M* uncle, Rev. John G. Biddle, and remained a faithful and devoted nfeinber until his death, a period of a1inoetr55 years. He served for many years as a member of the church coundb flUing. the offices of deaeon. elder and trustee and in each one rendered faithful and efficient service.
