v lt;;l»olunlt;l.Although we have not brought our town into notice through the columns of the Dispatch for some time, yet we are just booming along without regard to politics, cold weather or anything else. There can't any town crow over us now, as we have all the fixtures that go to make up a first-class place; either in reality or “ in our minds.”The public mind of our usually quiet town thinks of nothing but railroad and talks of nothing but railroad ; even the brass band has to take a back seat except Saturday nights, when it generally makes itself heard.Our merchants report the biggest sales ever known in our town, which speaks well for the community. But why should anyone go away from town to trade, when we have first-class merchants at home ?School closed at the Seminary last week.An exhibition was given on Friday evening by the Everett Literary Society which was quite largely attended and which gave good satisfaction.Poland township boasts of the boss cider maker of the county. His name is “True Fact,” at least that is what everyone calls him, and he lives down near the Center. He has made fifty barrels, and has the lion's share of it in his cellar. He is also a greathog raiser. Don’t forget the “ raiser,”and we notice also a large drove of fat tur-kevs in his farm yard. Last of all he al-ways iias the latch string out for his friends, and is always ready to produce a social glass of apple juice.The Lowell side of the township is reported in a flourishing condition, With furnace in full blast, Lowell enjoys good times for the first time since the panic.We almost forgot to mention the fact that the Hotel de Dustman will be opened Thanksgiving Day. Ike will make a tip-top landlord, and as for a landlady Mrs. D. will just take the cake.We think of having a skating rink this winter. It would be a paying investment.But we must not prolong this letter, but will come again. Jack.
