The Western Texas College Dusters, womens basketball team, boosted their season record to 4-0 last night with an impressive 8141 triumph over McMurry College in the Scurry County Coliseum. The Dusters dominated every phase of the game, using a full court to take a 12-0 lead on steals by Rosemary Scott, Marilyn Payton, Theresa Beal and Temi Baker. Beal and Karen Arp were outstanding on defense, and Brenda Jurecek had a great game under the boards. Cindy Cowart played an excellent floor game until she went out with a fractured foot. During the 11 minutes she played, Cindy had six assists, scored four points, and grabbed a rebound. Jarecek led in rebounds with 12 while Payton contributed seven and Arp six. The Dusters hit 15 of 28 in the first half from the floor and ended the night with 32 of 62 for 52 per cent. They also hit 17 of 38 from the line. Coach Sid Simpson began using his substitutes early, and 16 girls got to play in each half. Jarecek was leading scorer with 16 points while Arp pitched in 12. Condron of McMurry collected 17 points. Concerning the game, Coach Simpson said: ‘‘McMurry, despite its record, was a little weaker than I had thought they would be. Our press and rebounding strength put the game away early. This is probably the last game on our schedule which can be con sidered easy. We open con ference play with Clarendon and then have Weatherford, Ranger and Tyler coming up. We’re going to have to play better ball and will probably use fewer girls in order to get the team in top physical condition.” With the loss of Cowart, the Dusters now have two girls on the bench. Annie Tillman sustained damage to knee cartilage in the game with Texas Tech. Cindy will be out about a month. Tootie Stevenson plans to get married at midterm. The Dusters meet Clarendon there Monday night at 6 p.m. prior to the men’s game between the two schools. Simpson said he expects a tough game. “They're very capable of beating us, particularly with our injury situation the way it is,” he concluded.
