. Funeral services for Alvin C. Ash, pioneer Southwestern frontier of ficer and former member of the El Paso Police Department, will be held in Sawtelle, Calif. tomorrow. Mr. Ash died in Wadsworth Gen eral Hospital in Sawtelle yesterday where he had been receiving treat ment for malignant ear disorder since August. Retired in 1941 , Mr. Ash resided at 2629 Federal street. He was 75. Mr. Ash con cluded 20 years of service with the El Paso Police Department, with his retirement in April, 1941. He was born in Round Rock and began his career as a law enforce officer by serving as deputy sheriff in Dallam County. He later served as deputy sheriff in Colfax County, I. M. He enlisted as a member of Teddy Roosevelt's Hough Riders during the Spanish-American War. He was wounded by shrapnel in the battle of San Juan Hill. In 1940, he received the Purple Heart for bravery in action with the regi ment. ‘Was Ranch Foreman Mr. Ash was commissioned as a mounted inspector of U. S. Customs in Texas and New Mexico in 1906. He later became foreman of a ranch in the Gila River country. He moved to El Paso in 1921. He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Belen Ash; a son, William K. ‘Ash of Oji, Calif; three sisters, Mrs. R. M. Crim of Dallas, Mrs. E. ‘L. Hudnall of Tucson, and Mrs. C. L. Lockmiller of Clovis, N. M., and three brothers, A. T. Ash of El Paso, O. A. Ash of Douglas, Ariz, and R. L. Ash of Deming. all N. M. PIONEER DIES By United Press ALBUQUERQUE, N. M., Nov. 25. —Mrs. Mary Dickens died suddenly at her daughter's home here yes terday while celebrating her 60th wedding anniversary. Mr. and Mrs. Dickens came to Portales in 1901, and moved 12 years later to Mag dalena. They have lived at the home of their daughter, Mrs. Vir igi ia Browne, since coming to Al buquerque.
