Page 12.MAKE PROGRESS IN ADVANCING PARK HIGHWAYScott Leavitt Says Prospects Good for Building of Belton -Glacier Road. The proposal that the east and west entrances to Glacier park be connect od by a rood built jointly by the btale and federal government bus been materially . advanced during recent ( months and is in a fair way to definitely materialise at a comparatively early date, according to Scott Leavitt, president of the 1-0 Bee Line, who re- j turned Thursday from n conferencet with forest officials at .Missoula and John lSdy, chief engineer of the state | highway commission.Funds for Forest Roads.Mr. Leavitt was in conference at Missoula with Colonel IV. B. Greeley, ; neail of the forcal aervioe, and Chief Engineer Keen, and stated after his return that the forest department has authorized an appropriation for cer- ; tain classes of highway construction. His discussion of the roud with lt;mef Engineer Edy of the state highway commission further developed the tart, that the government and the state are strongly inclined to co-operate in its construction, the entire situation at , present being very favorably to an early realization of the highway.••Congress has placed with the tor-1 eat service an appropriation for highway construction, said Mr. Leavitt. after liis return, and there is apparent a strong inclination to give the Belton-Glacier rood priority m the program for next year. This highway is the only stretch of the trune-state rond thut has no construction of . any kind nnd 1 think satisfactory progress is being mnde in getting the i state nnd the government to act to- , gether iu conuccting up the two points. It seems probably that early construction cat be reasonably expected. No Competition. All competition between the Bclton-Glacier roud and the Logan pass rood has been eliminated us a result of their different classification. rhe Belton-Glucier road is a part of the state highway system nnd the Logan pass roud will be a detail of the park s development.''The Y-G Bee Line and the Roosevelt highway will tie into the Belton- | Glacier road at the cast entrance and be a unit of the National l'ark-to-rark highway. Mr. Ix*avitt represented the Bee Line, the Roosevelt lljghway u- . sedation ond Great Fulls good roods agencies nt the Missoula conference.
