A Sad Hrlttie Story. {Private Cassidy, of Fort Adams, atNewport, B. Cassidy, it appears.while on duty as a sentinel, left biff postwithout leave, and furthermore \ioktinto the sutler's department and appro priated a few trifling articles. One ,of the officers of the fort, on his way to hi quarters, after coming from town, sahis post vacant and his musket on th ground. He at once instituted a search) for the missing man, and found him ashe was coming from the sutler's shop.]He was at once placed unde^ arrest, and he Is now serving out htt severe sentence by order of a court-martial. Cassidy was the man who some time ago, while in the discharge of hisduty, was compelled to fire upon privafcqHoward, Jailing him almost instantly;; BToward was a prisoner, having a b£UL and chain attached! to his leg for deser-i tion, and with the aid of two accomplices! had his shackles loosened, so that whenj his time came to make a leap for liberty,' he coc^d*^urow them off.
