Grand Marshals of this year’s Foley's Thanksgiving Day Parade will be characters from Channel 8's Sesame Street. Susan, Mr. Hooper and Big Bird will ride on the lead float in Thursday's parade downtown at 10 a.m Will Lee, who plays Mr. Hooper; Loretta Long, who plays Susan; and Big Bird will arrive in Houston Wednesday afternoon. All street signs on Main Street will be changed to readh Sesame Street. The float, three feet off the ground and 12 feet by 15 feet, is a replica of the brownstone house in the children’s program. There will be old garbage cans, a fire hydrant and stone steps ‘‘To complete the stage,’’ Ann Gar ner, special events director at Foley’s, said. “The idea to bring the Sesame Street characters to Houston sort of evolved, but Lee Debow, vice president in charge of sales and promotion at Foley's, initiated the idea,’’ she said. The characters and staff will be flown in as guests of Foley's. They will make visits to such locations as the Allen Parkway Housing project between 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. The only problem is flying the seven foot Big Bird—he takes up two plane seats, she said. The parade can be viewed on Channel 2 Thursday morning and Channel 8 will replay it from 7:30 to 8:30 Thurdday night. Sesame Street is a children's program seen on Channel 8 Monday through Friday. The learn-by-seeing-and-saying show is aired twice a day at 7:45 a.m and 4:30 p.m. A private reception Wednesday and luncheon Thursday honoring the characters will be given by Foley's.
