HINDMAN, Ky. (UPS) — A for defying this order. Three Knott Couny woman demon were found guilty Monday and strator was arrested Tuesday received small fines and brief after she was forcibly removed jail sentences from a strip-mine site which has been the scene of several demonstrations, and a Louis ville’ newspaper photographer was arrested ,and jailed for taking pictures of her removal. Mrs. Combs had been one of those arrested in the earlier demonstration. Mrs.Ollis Combs, 61, was ar rested for contempt of a Knott Circuit Court ran interference or der after she sat down in the path of a Caperton Coal Co. bulldozer. Mrs. Combs was tak en to the Knvott County jail, but was released immediately on bond arranged in advance. Photographer Bill Strode, of the Louinsville Courier - Journal was arrested and jailed at the Honey Gap site near Hardbur ly, on land labeled off-limits to “antistrip mire demonstrators by Special Circuit Judge Don Ward, of Hazard. Strode avas jailed on a tres passing charge for continuing in photograph Mrs. Combs’ ar rest after he had been warned by Knoll County Sheriff Oliver Hylton to stop. Judge Wardesilion had is sued an order barring demon strators from Interfering with strip and auger mining by the Caperton firm. Nine Knoll County residents were arrested at Clear Creek last Wednesday Mrs. Combs, a widow, said she was protesting the strip. Mining operation because she feared it would cause dirt and debris to slide down von her home. Strode said Sheriff Hylton had warned him to “keep that camera to yourself” but that he continued taking pictures. After Mrs. Combs had been car ried to a waiting car, Hylton returned and asked Strode for his camera. Strode refused to surrender it and the camera was knocked to the ground during a scuffle. Strode later concealed the film is removed from the damaged camera in the finger of a glove.
