“J.B.,” the Pulitzer-prize win ning drama of a modern-day job, will be performed by the Moraine Valley Community College theater department at 8 p.m., Dec. 7, 8, 9, 14, 15 and 16 at 2 p.m., Dec. 10 and 17. “J.B.” is the second of four dramatic productions of the Moraine Valley theater depart ment’s 1989-90 season. The play will be performed in the 600 Building on the campus, 10900 S. 88th Ave., Palos Hills. Kate Walle directs Archibald MacLeish’s story of J.B., a rich businessman beset by deaths and violent catastrophies. Like his biblical counterpart Job, J.B. tries to find meaning in his suffering instead of cursing God In the title role of J.B. is Wayne O’Brien of Palos Hills. Other actors and roles are Mr. Zuss, played by Greg Zolkowski of Chicago; Mr. Nickles, played by Allan Monroe of Worth; “The Distant Voice,” played by David Quarles of Alsip, and Sarah, played by Laura Toombs of Chicago. John McDavitt of Oak Lawn plays the roles of David and Eliphaz; Shaunna Billish of Ev ergreen Park plays both Mary and Jolly Adams; Tom Beltz of Palos Hills plays the roles of Bildad and the First Messenger; Shawn Carrington of Chicago as the Second Messenger, and Cheri Jones of Oak Lawn plays the dual roles of the Girl and Mrs. Botticelli. In addition, Kathleen Gra ham of Midlothian plays Mrs. Adams and the First Maid; Mi chelle Hildebrand of Plainfield plays Mrs. Lesure and the Sec ond Maid, and Laura Beal of Chicago plays Mrs. Murphy. Serving as understudies are Jill Dunmore of Chicago and Joe Urbauer of Alsip. MacLeish’s credits include the Bollingen Prize in poetry, the Pulitzer Prize in poetry, the National Book Award in poetry and, in 1959, the Pulitzer Prize for playwrights for “J.B.” Cost is $7 for adults, $5 for senior citizens and students and $3 for Moraine Valley students. A Dec. 9 dinner theater show ticket costs $12 extra. (Doors open at 5:45 and dinner is served at 6 p.m.) Tickets may be purchased at the College Store in the College Center.
