The Burleson County CITIZEN, Thursday, November 2d, 1967Hornets Sting Sealy Tigers 61-43The Caldwell Hornet basketball team stung the Sealy Tigers 61 to 43 in their opening basketball game of the 1967-68 season. The game was played Monday night in Hornet gym. The game Tuesday night with Thorndale was called off.The first half of the Sealy game was very tight with the first period ending at 13-13. At the half, Caldwell carried a one point lead to the dressing room at 25 to 24. The third period proved to be a differentstory as the Hornet sharpshooters got hot and broke the game open. At the beginning of the period, Caldwell hit six straight field goals and out-scored their opponents 22 to 9 in thlt; period to take a 47-33 lead. The final period saw Caldwell set the pace again as they scored 14 points to Sealy’s 10.Jewel Dearman with 10 field goals and 7 free throws led the Hornet scoring attack with 27 points. Dick Bowers had 15and Elton Davis 11 for the vie-CHAS. He said they handled and moved the ball well, and played together as a team. “We made a minimum of mistakes handling the ball. The game was played in Rockdale.The game proved to be a defensive battle as the Bluejays led at the end of the first per-1 iod 4-2 but trailed at the half I 5 to 4. In the third period, the j offenses began to moved with lt;Rockdale scoring 13 points and Snook 12. The period ended with Rockdale leading 18 to 16. In the final quarter Snook scored 10 points, while holding Rockdale to 6 to take the win 26-24.Frankie See and Daniel Junek tied for high point honors for Snook with 10 each. B game at 6 p.m. A game at 7:30.4FIRE DESTROYS HAY AND BARN SATURDAYFire destroyed several hundred bales of hay belonging to Edgar Plemper, and the barn in which it was stored located in the Providence community. The blaze burned at about 8 p.m., and Plemper said origin of the fire had not been determined.
