Blow-Out Causes Accident on Duke’s HighwayCAR SOMERSAULTS AT LEAST TWICEOccupants Escape with Slight BruisesWhen a bolt lying on the road penetrated the rear off-side tyre of a Mercury sedan car travelling along the Duke’s Highways, between Cannawigara Siding and Bordertown last Friday night, at about 40 m.p.h.. causing a blow-out. the vehicle skidded off the made road towards an embankment on the left.The driver, Mr G. A. Johansson, sales manager of Norwood, succeeded in regaining control but was unable to avoid a guard-post as he was bringing the car back on to the roadway. The impact with the post overturned the vehicle, which somersaulted at least twice and came to rest upside-down.Mr Johansson had with him Mr Edgar Wright, of Torrensville. Both men remained in the car and escaped with minor bruises and a severe shaking. The car, which wa6 owned by Mr Robert Wright, paint manufacturer of Burnside, was extensively damaged. The hood, mudguards, boot, running-boards, bonnet, and doors were badly bent. Four windows were smashed and one splintered, and superficial dam- I age was done to the upholstering. An extraordinary fact was that the I windscreen was not even cracked. |The two men returned tfe Adelaide. by train next day (Saturday).
