Nelson was a native ol Virginia,and during mos^o!his life a resident of that State. During the last war with(heat Britain,he bore a commission in thearmy, ard for hisndeliiy and gallantry, especially in the actions at La Cole s| jVliii and Ohateaugay, ne received the thanks of the Legis-i lature of his native State and a beautiful sword asa testi-a I momai of his bravery.i- | StiOitly after the war, he was elected as a member of t ; Congress horn his native district, and was continued aRtp-j resentative until he voluntarily re igned.L' c j^iUl ^though h®. discharged with scrupulous honor and ndehtyjevery public trust confided to his hand-, yet he always pieterred the quiet of domestic and social ii!e in which he was ail example of hospitality and kindness, justice and generosity eel oni equalled.
