The “derelict,” however, turned out to be a dead whale.On November 14 a steamer ran close to the monster, the ship’s officers thinking it was a capsized vessel It reared 15 feet above the surface of the water and was about 80 feet long. When last seen it was in latitude 37.25 north and longitude 75.01, a slight distance from where the supposed “derelict” was seen a few days before.
