oASSEMBLY PROGRAM“No I-Hie need have tuberculosis” Did you ever see this statement in a doctor’s office? Whether you be lie\tj it or not, it is true, according to Charles A Freck, Director of Health Education, Illinois Tuberculo sis Association, who made that state ment on Tuesday morning, Novem bctr 12, in an assembly. He is trying to guard other people’s health and I think we should try to help him, to by letting other peop^' know how fa tal it is to hafe tuberculosis without knowing it yourself. Mr Freck’s lea ture was very interesting, as he had pictures to illustrate his discussion of the Captain of the Men of Death—TuberculosisHe said thepre were three times more cades of tuberculosis in Kanka keen county than there are in Cook County, including Chicago. Why is it It’s just bcause the people are care less. All you have to do it visit a doc tor, and he can test to see whether you have thje disease or not.The germs are usually found in the lungs, which may sometime cause consumption. If you get enough rest fresh air and proper food, a wall or tubercle will form around the germs enclosing them and they will not harm the body. Some children have fnactive germs in their bodies when they are very young; then after years, that tubercle may break and the berms will become active. When this happens the person should be taken to a sanitarium where prover cade is givenMr Freck said that a common cause of tuberculosis among high school students is that they do not take time to eat. They just run into a lunch room and get a coca cola and a pSekle for their lunchThere are twice as many women that have tuberculosis as men. A doctor once said that women go on diets too much, but now with the advent of Mae West and the popu larity of women still suffjer more from tuberculosis than men. Men usually get more fresh air and exer cise. Maybe that’s the reason. Let’s all try to pdevent tuberculosis by getting a lot of rest. That’s the easiest and surest dure.—Vernell Tallman
