AFTER “AN ILLNESS OF MANY MONTHS W. H. JAMESON PASS ES AWAY.—FUNERAL TO BE HELD SATURDAY William Henry Jameson, one of the founders of Corona, died at. 1: 45. O’clock this morning at the ‘family home on the Grand Boulevard at Joy street. He was 66. ‘years old, 26 years of that time being spent here. Funeral services will be held from the home Saturday after noon at 2 o'clock. Rev. F. W. Reynolds of the Baptist church officiating, and burial in Sun nyslope cemetery. William Henry Jameson was a native of St. Louis, Mo. As a young man he entered the lumber business. In that city. In 1886 his father-in- law, Geo. L. Joy came to this place and founded the colony along with ex-Governor Merrill of Iowa and Robert Taylor of Nebraska. Mr. Jameson was called” ‘here to act in the capacity of superintendent of the colony and since that time has been a resident of Corona, a period of 26 years. The deceased was a philanthropist and gave in such a quiet way that few ever knew of his giving at all. He disliked display... Many unfortu nate persons have received aid from him and he was as ready to help an enemy as a friend. He has done with and has always taken an active part In the improvements about Corona. His Lemonta grove east of the city is one of the most beautiful spots in the southern part of the state. It is visited daily by out of town auto parties. Among other holdings In this city Mr. Jameson has in the neighbor hood of 400 acres of oranges, lemons and grapefruit. “He also owns a large fruit packing house west of the Santa Fe depot which gives employ ment to many persons. Mr. Jameson was considered a great financier and is said to be worth something over a million dol lars. He was the kind of 2 man who could look ahead and through” his long sightedness and sagacity ‘made money. Much of this wealth was made in Corona but some was made in outside towns. For several years Mr. Jameson was a director in the Temescal Water company and later was president of the First National bank. The deceased was a loyal and act ive member of the Baptist church. He was a plain, unassuming man, and had great integrity of character and was..devoted..to. the interests of his family. Hotel Project Abandoned. Because of failing ealth the de ceased had to give up the plans he had made of, erecting a magnificent hotel on West Sixth street at Wash burn. He has practically just com pleted building over the old Joy resi dence on the Grand boulevard and has made it into a mansion. He had hopes of spending many happy days in this place but death came be fore it was completed. His wife and six children as fol low: Joy, Eloise, Bernice, Henry Jr., Hetty and Adelaide, survive him. His son Joy who was recently marri ed is in charge of the Jameson inter ests and has been for several months past, T. C. Jameson,a brother of the de ceased, also resides in Corona. The sympathy of the town is ex tended to the family in their sorrow.
