By BOBKELDER’ ILION A total of 77 separate contracts have been handled since Oct. 1, adding up to $70,285 in grant monies, according to a progress report on Ilion’s low and moderate income housing rehabilitation program At a meeting of the Ilion Citizens Advisory Committee last night. William Zweifel, rehabilitation director, reported that the contracts averaged $912.80, and 24 low bid contractors participated Starting with the current fiscal year that began Oct. 1, Ilion has been approved by the federal Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) to spend $170,000 in the fiscal year in housing rehabilitation grant monies. Last year, the first year of the program, Ilion spent $101,000 on such housing. The funds are part of the HUD grants under the Small Cities Act. Ilion received $489,000 the first year, and $500,000 for the current second year An equal amount is expected next year in the third and final year. About the same proportion will be spent next year Besides housing rehabilitation, the grant momes are used for other village projects as well Zweitel told the CAC last night he expects to hear soon from HUD on the new federal loan Section 312 program ‘HUD is taking steps to set it up, and the rsidents will be informed as soon as it is finalized.” Zweifel said. The program provides for low interest loans of about three percent In its first year of housing rehabilitation which ended Sept 30. Then completed 31 projects and was working on about a dozen more as the fiscal year finished. All have since been complete Zweifel recently reminded residents that HUD has established new Section income limits that make more applicants eligible The new income limits are as follows: one person, $11,800, Up $2,000; two persons, $13,500 up $2,300, three persons, $15,200, up $2,600; four persons, $16,900, up $2,900 Also, five persons, $17,790 up $3,100; six persons, $19,000 up $8,250, seven persons, $20,050, up $3,450; eight persons or more, $21,100, up $3,600 As decided many months ago by the 13-person CAC which oversees the program the maximum grant for the owner-occupant category is $3,000 with $1,000 as the maximum grant per rental unit The CAC is giving first priority to work connected to the health and safety of the occupants, such as roof wiring, plumbing, and structural corrections MAGICAL COMEDY AT HCCC “Magic Magic,”’ a Drama Society production will be held at Herkimer County Community College this Friday and Saturday at 8 p.m. Some of the players are, from left, Ward Reynolds, Neil Wallace, Raymond Kicinski, Russ Zizzo, Mia Lombardi and Aileen Jewitt.
