Selectmen White and Cocco brought up a development which could lead to help in reopening the subjects of the extension of Route 290 and the acquisition for the Town of unused BM Railroad lands. Both subjects, long dormant because they involve outside authorities, will be taken up with the new municipal representative for the Town to the Office of Local Assistance. This is a State authorized department for improving communications between town and State governments. The Maynard area representative, Wayne Tarkington, can help with problems involving State departments where there is lack of communication or response.White pointed out that extension of Route 290 could encourage expansion of both new and present industry, since access to a main highway is an important consideration. It could be beneficial to mount a joint effort with other towns, he said. The BM property is needed for parking, recreation and conservation, according to Mr. Cocco. The property involves a strip about 2-1/2 miles long from Acton through the middle of Town to Great Road.
