Montague, of the Experiment Station. Lou Dyer, the Standard oil man has recently purchased a three ton oil truck. Mrs. Shaw has purchased a new Boardman-Gray player piano of Frank Bissing. Alex (Cotton) Bissing, the electrician of the Electric Light Co., is ailing on account of a wrenched back. A. A. Wiesner has recently purchased Ford runabout which he intends con verting into a delivery truck. John Wood is the real estate man who can sell your property. You will find him at the Free Press office. Second Hand engine for sale at Farmer's Elevator. Harry Kirkman is back from Kansas City where Mrs. Kirkman has been taking treatment for her eyes. County Superintendent Malcom Peter son of Logan county, was in Hays Fri day. Mrs. Alex Philip entertained at 6 o'clock sipper Wednesday evening. [There were thirty-six persons present. John and Ignatius Sack are each building a hollow tile automobile garage on their farms west of town. The railroad company are painting all their buildings yellow including the depot. A yellow streak —vot. Mr. and Mrs. W.S. Mann, who have returned to Excelsior Springs, expect to remain there this winter on account of Mr. Mann’s health. Mr. Malloy has just been engaged as a soloist in the Messiah Festival of Minnesota College at Minneapolis, Minn., for March 22, 24, 25. Mrs. Mollie Gisthardt motored to Great Bend Sunday, to see the wreck made by the destructive cyclone that recently struck that city. Lawrence Dresling, one of the county commissioners of Graham county, Sun dayed with friends in Hays. He drove to Hays in his new Buick car The law requires that the trash and weeds be cleaned off the sides of the county roads and burned. Township officers should get busy and see that it is done before winter begins in earnest. ‘The annual union Thanksgiving ser vice will be held in the Methodist Church, on Thursday, Nov., 25 at 8 p. m. Rev. Rogers, pastor of the Bap tist church, will preach the sermon. Andrew Jensen has returned from Kansas City, where he purchased two car loads of stock cattle. Millard Kirkman has also returned from Kan sas City where he also purchased a car load of stockers. ‘The ladies of the Civic League have donated and caused to be located the sheet iron trash recepticles on Chest mut street, one on Juniata street, one on North Main street, and another on Third street. The ladies should be congratulated, B. G. Sites was called, Wednesday of last week, to Mount Ida, Anderson county, Kansas, to attend the funeral of Florence, daughter of J.P. Sites, returning Tuesday of this week. He was accompanied by Sanford and Dave Sites and their sister, Mrs. McKinzey.’ The performance of Faust so long talked about by Hays people, will be given by Mr. Malloy, Monday, Novem ber 23. The soloists are Mr. A. E. Todd of Kansas City, Miss Pearl Siden ius, ‘Mr. Wooster, Miss Esther Turner, and Mr. Malloy, ‘Summons have been served in the case of Sadie Herb against the execu tors of the estate of Harry Herb, late of this county. She claims that she is the widow of the deceased, and alleges [that she was his common law wife and had been since September 1912. Charles Harrison, the tenor of the Victor Opera Company, will give a re cital at the Normal Auditorium, Tues day, December 7, under the direction of Mr. Malloy. Mr. Harrison is the tenor whose records are often sold in stead of those of John McCormack. Another treat for Hays people that Mr. Malloy is bringing there, €. G. Cochran returned Tuesday evening from attending the meeting of Group 4 of the Kansas Bankers Asso siation, at Ellsworth. He reports a fine meeting and over 900 present. He made an effort to get the meeting held at Hays next year but they wished to held it further east and promised to meet at Hays year after next.—Plain ville Times. The first issue of the new Ellis county newspaper to be published at Victoria will appear next week so we are ini formed. Thursday at 11 o'clock the funeral of the little Stesler baby was held at the Methodist Church. Rev. Hale conduct ed the services, Mrs. Weber, Mrs. Bartholomew and Rev. and Mrs. Hale spent Thursday afternoon at the home of Lou Kraus. Many people know that this is one of the finest farm homes of Ellis County. Last week Rev. Hale spent lecturing at various places in the eastern part of the state. Blown From Great Bend to Glasco Beloit, Kan., Nov. 16.—A letter and a check, evidently blown by the storm which struck Great Bend last week, were found in a field near Glasco, a small town southeast of Beloit. The letter, found in a cornfield, was sealed and stamped, but never had been mail ed. The envelope bore the return card of a Great Bend resident. A grain check, given by a Great Bend mill, algo was found. The check had been written and signed, but in all probability never had left the mill, as it was free from the creases, folds, or indorsements. Glinseo is more than a hundred miles northeast of Great Bend.
