Messiah [priest] officiating at Trinity chapel, Ashe vide. Rev. J. W. Perry, [Deacon] officiating in S. Luke’s chapel, Tar-boro. Berry is one of the oldest colored priest in the merican church, was elevated to the priesthood Juue 12 1849. He iias been a faithful dispencer of the Catholic faith and completely worn out has retired from active work. In the journal of this diocese for ’86 we find that a whole page is devoted “In MemoriamJ The Reverend William Rufus Harris, Born in Oxford Granville county, North Carolina. Ordered Deacon, April 30, 1882, in S. Augustine’s church Raleigh, N. C. Ordained Priest, June 4th 1884 in S. Augustine’s church, Raleigh, N. C. Teacher in S. Augustine’s Normal sshool and Collegiate Institute from 1880 to 1885. Hied January 17th 1885, second Saturday after the Epiphany.” The deceased was a colored clergyman and a personal acquaintance of the editor of this paper.
