Chairman Howard Hall, along with commissioners Robert Barkhouse, John Davis.William Smith and John Miche-li voted to approve the commission-initiated rezoning. Commissioners Roy Hilbert and Michael Tomlinson voted against the move. The rezoning of the Meyer Pit, ihe Morenead-McPnerrin Pit and the inactive Catlett and Nagler pits will not affect mining operations in the pits, according to Senior PlannerJUST ONEEXAMPLE OF MANYLarry Larsen. The move was made to restrict other uses allowed in M-l zoning from operating in the areas. Mining pits are allowed in the general agriculture zone.Hilbert and Tomlinson voted against the move, with Hilbert saying he is concerned about some property owners who feel their land will decrease in value because of the zone change. In other business commissioners:— Denied 5-2, a use permit sought by Rick Shirley of 1179 Messick Road that would allow him to operate a plumbing contracting business at his residence. Barkhouse, Davis, Hall and Smith voted to deny the permit, saying it is not compatible with th^ agricultural zoning of the property. Tomlinson andHilbert voted to grant the permit, saying the commission should consider the difficulties a young businessman has in finding suitable and inexpensive locations to start operations.— Approved a use permit sought by Mr. and Mrs. Philip Jones of 949 Los Bravos Drive that will allow the establishment of a wholesale bakingNOW ATbusiness in their home. Commissioners said the business would be compatible with the R-E (residential estates) zoning of the property.—Denied 4-3, a tentative map sought by Virgil Atkinson, Letha Barrow and Dan Jacuzzi that would have allowed the dividing of 18 acres on the west side of Township Road between Dresser Road and the Sacramento Northern Railroad tracks into 18 residential lots. Micheli, Davis, Tomlinson and Smith voted to deny the map, saying it does not adequately address drainage problems in the area and is premature development. Hilbert, Hall and Barkhouse voted to approve the map, noting that supervisors earlier approved a general plan amendment to allow the projectand seem to favor the proposed development.— Granted use permits to Buttes Resources Co. and to TXO Production Corp. for the installation of natural gas wells on the south side of Central Avenue and west of McArthur Road in Meridian, and west of Cran-more Road and north of Pelger Road in west Sutter County, respectively.—Approved rezoning property owned by Linda and Bruce Minton on the west side of Acacia Avenue and north of Marshall Street in Sutter from C-2 (general commercial) to C-M (Commercial Industrial) to allow the establishment of a pump supply business and a warehouse.—Approved, 6-1, a use permit for Beverly Ferguson that willallow the installation of two mobile homes in addition to an existing house at 2357 Rio Oso Road, Rio Oso. A condition of the permit is that the mobile homes be lived in by the owner or parents of the owner. Barkhouse voted against the permit, saying three dwellings on one lot is too high a density.— Approved a variance and tentative map sought by Ludwig Schmidl that will allow the creation of an 18,000-square-foot home site south of Eneinal Road and east of Larkin Road. The variance will allow a lot size reduction from the normal one acre limit. Commissioners found that unusual circumstances exist because the smaller lot size would allow for a larger adjoining agricultural parcel.
