Basketball Section - November 19, 1980 - Page 8 First-year Bethel coach Al Ginn, promoted from the junior varsity coaching assignment he had held at Bethel for the past eight years, says his immediate goal is to get the Tigers to finish with an even record this season. Bethel was 8-12 last year and 8-8 in the CCL The Tigers lost two ALL-CCL performers from last season to graduation, Chris Christian and Rick Meadors. Two other starters were also lost. The lone returnee is 6-foot-1 forward Jeff Walker. Harold Houchins, who was on the varsity last year but did not see much action, inherits the point guard position. Houchins is a 6-foot senior Complimenting Walker at for ward will probably be a sophomore, 6-foot-3 Randy Robinson. But also seeing action in the front court will be 6-foot-2 junior Tony Shebesta and 6-foot-1 junior Dave Emery. The Tigers will also put three guards on the floor at the same time. “Because of a lack of height we're going with the three guards,” says Ginn. “We don’t feel like we've got a genuine pivot man.” Starting along with Houchins will be Adam Patterson and Jeff Smith. Smith is only 5-foot-8, which means according to Ginn that he sometimes has difficulty getting his shots off.
